Jo’s 2021 Bio
Jo grew up in Winnipeg’s trendy Wolseley area into an extremely creative family who taught her everything was possible if you wanted it bad enough. All you have to do is work at it until you get it right and so through an impressive list of studies, networking and perseverance, she is doing just that. “I believe becoming an artist takes a lifetime,” Jo says. “Along this journey you rediscover and reinvent your technique, always searching for your own personal perfection and signature style.” Saying that is it not surprising that Jo is basically self-taught with the help of many including being mentored by Manitoba’s best, Leona Brown and Milos Milidrag.
Her semi abstract approach captures a visual sensation of the complicated interactions of life around us. Jo feels everything is connected and the suffering of one effects everything else. She feels the spirits and souls of every living thing and aims to be their visual voice threw her art.
Jo’s artwork has found its way into homes across Canada, the USA, Germany and Trinidad. She has artist connections all over the world through social media. Her artwork is available and for sale through Warehouse Artworks in Winnipeg’s Exchange District, Gwen Fox Gallery in Selkirk MB, Tradition Law in downtown Winnipeg and a permanent collection is located at RE/MAX Performance Realty on St. Mary’s Road, Winnipeg.
Jo is a long time member of LCAG (Local Color Art Group) and created their monthly newsletter to keep their 100+ members informed for 8 years.
She was one of 3 jurors in 2016 for the artists at the Grist Mill in Westport, Ontario and has juried the photography with the Manitoba Camera Club numerous times.
She has participated and been involved in the formation of the Artists of East St. Paul Art Tour and created the brochure and poster for their 4 events. As well, she coordinates an evening in East St Paul, where once a week, artists paint while sharing their skills, ideas and knowledge.
In 2019 she received an award from the RM of East St Paul for her volunteer work in promoting art in the community.
She shows her work at Winnipeg’s premiere art show, Art Expo since 2018 and Manitoba Society of Artists juried art shows regularly. She has shown her art at Fleet Gallery and Cre8ery in the past.
